Work for Thursday, 3/26 - Friday, 3/27: For Friday: Please submit the requested work to my Google Classroom. Please keep everything else that you did over these two weeks so that we can review when we return from Spring Break. Do not throw things away-- I may end up grading them when we come back. Among the Hidden Assignments: Your paragraph and three vocab words from Among the Hidden are due by Friday. It appears that I thought that I had posted a reminder about the reading when in fact I had not, so I apologize for that. You may email me your work or send me a picture through ParentSquare. After Spring Break, you will be able to submit your Among the Hidden work on Google Classroom. From looking at last week's paragraphs, it appeared that several of you were not up-to-date on your reading either because you did not send your work or because the paragraph you did send neglected to mention the very significant thing that happened in last week's reading. Your reading for last week and this week are a little shorter, so, if you are behind, please use this opportunity to catch up. If you still are not caught up, you have all of Spring Break to get there. Other work for these last two days: Continue working on "Tucket's Travels" in your Journeys book and the perfect tense worksheets in your packets. Please let me know if you have any questions. Work for Monday, 3/23: Please continue the Journeys work for this week, and please see the Among the Hidden reading due dates I posted over the weekend. Finish the back of the Analogies sheet and the back of the Grammar sheet that were included in your Week 1 packet. You will need to finish the Perfect Tenses worksheets in your take-home packets. Here are your directions: You might want to watch this Khan Academy video: (There are practice sentences after the video, which might be helpful.) And now here are my tips: Please read the directions on the Perfect Tenses worksheets. The directions and examples provided by the book are usually helpful. The perfect tenses are not very complicated. They are similar to the progressive tenses in that the helping verb before the main verb changes, but the main verb really doesn't. Perfect tense is used to talk about an action that was completed just before whatever time period we are talking about. For example, for past perfect, you are talking about having finished something prior to the back-in-time period in which the other stuff in the sentence is taking place. EX: When we got to the wedding, I already had memorized my speech. -- Past perfect always uses had + the past tense of the verb (had walked, had swum, had said) For Present perfect, you are talking about having finished something just before right now. EX: We are at the wedding, and I have memorized my speech. --Present perfect always uses have + the past tense of the verb (have walked, had swum, had said) For Future perfect, you are talking about something that you just finished right before whatever future time period the rest of the sentence is talking about. EX: When we get to the wedding, I will have memorized my speech. -- Future perfect always uses will have + the past tense verb (will have walked, will have swum, will have said) ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Among the Hidden reading schedule: For 3/25: Read to page 74 (end of Ch. 16) For 4/8: Read to page 99 (end of Ch. 20) For 4/15: Read to page 124 (end of Ch. 26) For 4/22: Finish book Work for Thursday, 3/19: For your weekly RPS work, in your Week 1 folder you should have a front/back sheet that was copied from a workbook. You should do these pages just as we were doing them in class: do the front this week, and then do the back next week. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a nice weekend!
